In 1977, Edward Gorey gave us the definitive stage version, designing sets and costumes for the Broadway production of Dracula so hauntingly good they won him a Tony Award. His Dracula was dark, witty, and unmistakably Gorey: all cross-hatching, bat wings, and deadpan menace.
