This gorgeous pin from The Clever Clove includes a quote from Thomas Jefferson that every bookworm lives by: I cannot live with books.
These words by Jefferson were part of a letter sent to John Adams in June 1815 after selling his library to the US Congress. This purchase of Jefferson's library replaced the congressional library that had been lost when the British burnt the United States Capitol in August 1814.
At that time Jefferson's library number some 6500 books that had been collected over 50 years in both America and Europe. In 1819, Jefferson wrote that books were indeed "a necessary of life."
